Sport as a field of analysis for understanding symbolic representations of cultures has been rare. Bodily performances and the contextualized meaning and function of the body, identity construction, sports-like activities and framing rites de passage account for some possible topical approaches applying methods at the more traditional end of anthropological analysis.
In the course of global processes of transformation and diffusion, modern concepts of sport mix with traditional events and meanings of games, body and leisure. Anthropological perspectives together with multidisciplinary inputs may stimulate an extensive range of relevant issues:
-Transnational migration in sports: the economic and cultural framework, processes and effects
-Sport and its use for developmental issues and as a mitigator for conflict and poverty
-Sport as a performed symbolic representation of cultural and national values
